India’s goalkeeper Rishabh Pant was taken to hospital for scans after he received a blow to his left elbow while batting, the BCCI said on Saturday. Pant suffered the injury during his 36-run hit on Day 3 of Test 3 against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground. He was replaced by Wriddhiman Saha behind stumps as the Indian team took to the field in Australia’s second inning. Pant was hitting confidently before taking a hit to the elbow with a short delivery from Pat Cummins. The wicketkeeper-batter appeared to be quite uncomfortable after being hit, but continued to bat. However, despite all his efforts, he did not continue as Josh Hazlewood caught him in David Warner’s first slip.

“Rishabh Pant was hit in the left elbow while batting in the second session on Saturday. He was taken for scans,” the BCCI tweeted.

Aside from Pant, another injury that worried the visitors was all-star off-roader Ravindra Jadeja, who also received a thumb shot from his bowling hand while batting and missed the field at the start of Australia’s second inning.

Despite fighting the pain, Jadeja scored some crucial runs towards the end and was unbeaten on 28 of 37 balls. Despite their late streak, India was eliminated by 244 runs in their opening innings, and the hosts took a crucial 94-run lead.

Cummins was chosen as Australia’s bowler, as he took four for 29 runs of his 21.4 overs. Hazlewood came back with figures of two for 43 runs, while Mitchell Starc also picked up a wicket.
