While good performances attract praise, you also see people draw comparisons to former stars. And with Shubman Gill putting on an impressive show at the Boxing Day event, the comparisons have already begun. But former India starter Wasim Jaffer has urged people not to compare the youngster to anyone. Gill looked in good contact when he stepped out to make his test debut at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) against Australia. While scoring 45 in the first inning, he hit 35 undefeated in the second as India clinched an eight-wicket victory in the match.

“Shubman is special, but please let him enjoy his cricket and grow in his career. Do not compare him to anyone and put undue pressure on him. He is not the next someone, he is the first at Shubman Gill. We have lost many great talents due to unrealistic pressure and expectations. #Shubmangill, “Jaffer tweeted.

Without Virat Kohli, without Rohit Sharma, without Ishant Sharma, without Mohammad Shami, and without the humiliation of scoring their lowest test score at the Adelaide Oval, India made a brilliant change to level the series. The victory not only brought India back into the series, it also brought the team closer to the final of the World Test Championship.

Building on a brilliant partnership between Ajinkya Rahane and Ravindra Jadeja on the third day, India first eliminated Australia by 200 and then came back to chase the target of 70 in just 15.5 overs on the fourth day. If a session had cost India the first test, it was again a session, in which Rahane and Ravindra Jadeja weathered the storm on the second day, in which India took the second game.

However, victory was not as easy as it was on paper. Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc gave Australia the first wickets to ensure that victory was not child’s play for the visitors.

Starc fired Mayank while Cummins sent Pujara back when a small goal started to look a bit difficult. However, some sure shots from Gill and Rahane calmed the nerves in the Indian dressing room as India recorded a complete 8-wicket victory.
