Australian fast pitcher Mitchell Starc was ruled out of the final two games of his Twenty20 International series with India on Sunday for compassion in another blow to the team. Starc has left the Australian camp with the blessing of coach Justin Langer after being informed of an unspecified family illness. “We will give Mitch as much time as he needs and welcome him back to the team with open arms when he feels the time is right for him and his family,” Langer said.
His retirement is the latest change to Australia’s limited squad in the past week with David Warner and Ashton Agar injured, while Pat Cummins is at rest.
Opening hitters D’Arcy Short and spinners Mitch Swepson and Nathan Lyon have been added to the team.
Promoted
India won the first Twenty20 international match on Friday in Canberra by 11 runs, with the second match later on Sunday in Sydney and the final match of three on Wednesday.
The first of the four tests begins on December 17 in Adelaide.
