Rohit Sharma may have returned to action and played three straight games for the Mumbai Indians as they marched to a record fifth IPL title earlier this week, but he’s still “70 percent” fit, according to the president of the BCCI, Sourav. Ganguly.
“Rohit is still 70% [fit]”Ganguly said in an interview with Week when asked about Sharma playing for his franchise shortly after being left out of the India tour of Australia for fitness reasons. “Why don’t you find out from Rohit himself? That’s why he has not yet been chosen for the ODI and T20 in Australia. He has been added to the test team.”

Sharma suffered a torn hamstring in his left leg on October 18 during the Mumbai Indians’ game against the Kings XI Punjab in Dubai. He missed the team’s next four games, but came back for the final three, helping them seal the title with half a century in the final against the Delhi Capitals.
Along the way, the BCCI selectors first dropped Sharma from the three teams for Australia, then added him to the test team. He is expected to undergo rehab at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru before joining the India team in Australia ahead of the first test in Adelaide, which starts on December 17, pending a fitness test. Sharma has not traveled to Australia with the rest of the UAE contingent.
In between, on November 3, Ganguly also asked Sharma to exercise caution when deciding whether or not to return for the Mumbai Indians during the playoff stage. “Rohit is injured at the moment. Otherwise, why would we leave out a player like him? He’s the vice captain of the (limited) national team,” Ganguly had said. “We will have to evaluate him. I do not know (when he will be able to return). He has not played until now since he was injured. We want him to recover. It is the BCCI’s job to get the best of himself” players in the park. If he recovers, play ”.
“I think people don’t know how BCCI works. The BCCI coaches, the physical therapist and Wriddhi himself know that he has two hamstring problems. People don’t understand injuries, that’s why they talk nonsense.”

Wriddhiman Saha is another member of the Indian contingent recovering from a hamstring injury. The wicketkeeper-batsman, who is part of the test team but not the limited overs teams, has flown to Australia with the rest of the India touring group after missing the last two Sunrisers Hyderabad matches. BCCI’s communication with the media regarding player injuries has often been opaque, but Ganguly said Saha’s situation, and the physical condition of each player, was being closely monitored by the board and the India team management.
“Who should know [about player injuries]? We know it, the Indian physical therapist knows it, the NCA knows it, “said Ganguly.” I think people don’t know how BCCI works. The BCCI coaches, the physical therapist and Wriddhi himself know that he has two hamstring problems. People don’t understand injuries, that’s why they talk nonsense.
“Wriddhi is traveling to Australia because he will be eligible for Testing. It is not part of the shorter formats. For the entire duration of the IPL, the Indian physiotherapists and trainers were in Dubai. [India physio] Dr. Nitin Patel is managing the injuries and monitoring everything. “
Indian tour group Ishant Sharma is another player recovering from injury and has yet to get on the plane, he arrived in Sydney on Thursday and immediately went into quarantine for two weeks.
