India suffered a loss of eight wickets in the first test at the Adelaide Oval on Saturday after a dramatic batting collapse saw the visitors record their lowest total in the game’s longest format: 36/9. Former head coach Dilip Vengsarkar, in an exclusive chat with The Times Of India, suggested that the Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) should send Rahul Dravid to Australia to help down Indian batsmen. Vengsarkar said that the National Cricket Academy has been closed due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and therefore the cricket board must look to Dravid’s expertise to turn things around in Australia.

“The BCCI must bring Dravid to Australia to help the team. No one can better guide the batters on how to play the ball in motion under those conditions. His presence will be a great boost for the Indian team in the nets. In any case, the NCA has been closed due to Covid for the past nine months, leaving you with little to do, “Vengsarkar said according to The Times Of India.

India will play the last three test matches without skipper Virat Kohli, who will fly back home to be with his wife as he becomes a father.

“The Board can make better use of Dravid by using his services to help the national team, which will be without skipper Virat Kohli from now on (last three rounds).”

Rohit Sharma is currently in his mandatory 14-day quarantine period in Sydney and Vengsarkar said that Dravid can join the team before the third test in Sydney after completing his quarantine.

“Even if he has to serve a mandatory two-week quarantine period, he should be available to help the Indian team on the networks before the third test in Sydney, which will start on January 7,” Vengsarkar said.

“It is time for Dravid to be asked to be more involved with the Indian team,” Vengsarkar concluded.
