Ajinkya Rahane, India’s most successful batsman in the opening innings of Test 2 against Australia, went for a quick single and lost his wicket in the process as he tried to lead Ravindra Jadeja to half a century. In the 100th of the first inning for India, Jadeja, hitting 49, pushed Nathan Lyon’s pitch into short coverage for a quick single. However, Marnus Labuschagne ran to the ball and took a precise shot at goalkeeper Tim Paine, who took off his bails while Rahane was only slightly under his ground.

However, Rahane’s gesture after he was fired drew applause on social media. The Indian captain appeared to reassure Jadeja and ask his teammate to continue after his game-changing 121-race partnership ended.

Jadeja was fired for 57 later in the innings when India lost 5 of 49 in the first session.
