India’s fast pitcher Umesh Yadav limped off the field after sustaining a calf muscle injury during day three of Test 2 against Australia in Melbourne on Monday and was taken in for scans. Umesh, 33, was on a roll when she felt pain in her left leg and called for immediate medical attention. Later he limped back to the dressing room. “Umesh Yadav complained of calf pain while throwing his fourth and was evaluated by the BCCI medical team. Now they are taking him for scans,” the BCCI media team released a statement.

Umesh had fired starter Joe Burns with a peach from a delivery in just his second earlier.
Rookie pacemaker Mohammed Siraj completed what was the final eighth of innings. India is already losing the services of seasoned pacemakers Mohammed Shami and Ishant Sharma and the latest injury would add to the away team’s woes in the four-game test series.

With updates expected on Umesh’s injury, India’s decision to play five bowls at Melbourne Cricket Ground could help their cause.
After knocking out Australia by 195 in their first innings, India scored 326 for a substantial 131-run lead. India trailed 0-1 in the series after their defeat in the opener in Adelaide.
