The ambitious infrastructure project is said to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the last week of September. The strategically important infrastructure project, the Rohtang Tunnel, is named after former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. It has been built at a cost of around Rs 3,200 crore. According to KP Purushothaman, the project’s chief engineer, the estimated period for the completion of the Atal tunnel was less than six years, but it was completed in 10 years, ANI reported.

The 8.8 km long Atal Tunnel will be one of the longest road tunnels in India. Under Rohtang Pass, the strategic road tunnel project is being built at an elevation of 10,171 feet. Once the ambitious tunnel project opens to the public, there will be a nearly 45-kilometer reduction between Manali and Lahaul-Spiti’s administrative center, Keylong.

A few months ago, it was reported that the Himachal Pradesh state government is cooperating with ITBP to install heliports in border areas / regions with neighboring China. The measure is expected to improve activities and access in border areas.

The strategically important Atal tunnel is expected to save millions of rupees in transport costs. Previously, BRO officials had reported that the tunnel project was in a critical stage of development as construction works, including the installation of electromechanical accessories, Intelligent Traffic Control Systems, ventilation, road paving works, lighting, etc., were being performed. executed.

In addition to the strategically important Atal Tunnel, another infrastructure project is also being developed, which is a 100-meter-long steel superstructure bridge over the Chandra River at the North Portal of the Rohtang Tunnel.
