People throw themselves at cake at Sharad Pawar’s birthday celebrations.
Beed: Maharashtra’s Cabinet Minister Dhananjay Munde organized an event on Saturday to mark the 80th birthday of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chairman Sharad Pawar in Beed, where people were seen maddened by a piece of cake, raping all social distancing regulations in the wake of the COVID-19 Pandemic.
Shocking images emerged from the event that showed people attacking the cake ordered for the celebrations. People were also seen throwing chairs at each other at the event.
Eventually, the police stepped in to manage the crowd, after which some sort of order could be established at the event.
The poorly managed event raised questions about why such a large crowd was allowed to gather in times of a pandemic.
Leaders greet PNC chief on his 80th birthday
On Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi greeted Sharad Pawar on his birthday. “Best wishes to @PawarSpeaks Ji on his birthday. May the Almighty bless with good health and long life,” Modi tweeted. Several high-ranking congressional leaders, including former party chairman Rahul Gandhi, also warmly greeted Pawar.
Pawar, a former Union Minister and Prime Minister of Maharashtra, is one of the main opposition leaders and is seen as a pivot of the anti-BJP front in the country. He is known for sharing a good relationship with politicians, including the prime minister, of all political parties.
The veteran leader was also instrumental in shaping the NCP-Congress combination’s unlikely link to Shiv Sena last year after the Sena fell out with its ally BJP following the Assembly elections.
In an article published on Pawar’s birthday, CPN leader Praful Patel wrote about the veteran leader’s political prowess and the impact it can have on national politics. “If the entire opposition remains united, then we can make a difference … If all of Maharashtra supports Sharad Pawar, then it is only natural that a different picture could emerge,” he said. On whether Pawar can become the next prime minister, the PNC leader said: “The unfulfilled dream of our party will come true.”
Meanwhile, on Friday, Pawar had refuted speculations made in a section of the media that he would become the president of the United Progressive Alliance.
