NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually attended the 15th G20 Summit chaired by Saudi Arabia on Saturday. The theme of this Summit is – “Discovering the opportunities of the 21st century for all”.
The Prime Minister congratulated the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and its leadership on its successful G20 Presidency this year and for hosting the second G20 Summit in 2020 through a virtual format despite the challenges and obstacles posed by the Covid-19 pandemic. .
Calling the pandemic the greatest challenge facing the world since World War II, Prime Minister Modi urged leaders to take decisive action, not limited to economic recovery, jobs and trade, but to focus on preserving the planet.
“I had a very fruitful discussion with the G20 leaders. The coordinated efforts of the world’s largest economies will surely lead to a faster recovery from this pandemic. He thanked Saudi Arabia for hosting the Virtual Summit,” Prime Minister Modi said in a tweet.

“Transparency in our processes helps inspire our societies to fight crisis collectively and with confidence. The spirit of trusteeship of planet Earth will inspire us to lead a healthy and holistic lifestyle,” he said.
The prime minister also called for a new global index for the post-Covid world that comprises four key elements: the creation of a vast talent pool; ensure that technology reaches all segments of society; transparency in governance systems; and dealing with the planet in a spirit of stewardship.
Noting that ‘Working from anywhere’ is a new normal in the post-Covid world, the Prime Minister also suggested the creation of a G20 Virtual Secretariat as a repository for tracking and documentation.
The Summit’s agenda spans two days with two sessions focused on overcoming the pandemic, economic recovery and job restoration, and building an inclusive, sustainable and resilient future.
