Those who test positive for coronovirus should not visit the quarantine center for evaluation, the Delhi government said today, objecting to the Centre’s new guidelines. The government has written to Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal requesting him to return to the old system, under which a government team visited patients in their homes, evaluated their condition, checked facilities in their homes and decided that Whether or not to transfer them to the Coronav Care Center. Or home quarantine is sufficient.
Pointing out that it is not appropriate for positive people to stand in queues, he said ambulances would also be pressurized for an evaluation for patients to visit the quarantine centers before this new system.
The quarantine system in Delhi has gone through several changes in the last few weeks.
Initially, home quarantine was the norm for all, but amid an increase in cases of coronovirus last week, the Lt. Governor ordered mandatory institutional quarantine for all.
But the Delhi government said that this would mean arranging over 90,000 hospital beds, which was almost impossible at this time. The order was later amended, with the center stating that all coronovirus patients would have to go to COVID-19 care centers. Only those who have facilities at home and have no other risk factors such as diabetes, high blood pressure or kidney problems can remain in quarantine at home.
But the order also requires that those who test positive through lab-based swab testing will first be taken to a government center to assess whether they are eligible for home segregation.
Today, Mr. Sisodia said that frequent changes in rules are creating confusion for the people.
Sisodia said, “First they (center) stopped the isolation from the house and now it is implemented again. Now people are facing difficulties.”
