Assam’s Education Minister Sarma makes a great statement on the teaching of the Quran in the state | India News

Assam’s Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Tuesday (October 13) that government money could not be used to reach the Muslim religious book Quran, adding that if the government is bearing the cost of teaching the Quran in madrasah, then he should also pay for the teaching of the Bible and the Bhagavad Gita.

“In my opinion, the teaching of the ‘Qur’an’ cannot happen at the cost of government money, if we have to, we should also teach both the Bible and the Bhagavad Gita,” Sarma said.

The high-ranking BJP leader added that all government-assisted madrasas in Assam will become regular schools, as the state government has decided to close all madrasas in November. Sarma said that in certain cases teachers will be transferred to state government schools.

“All state madrassas will be converted to regular schools or, in certain cases, teachers will be transferred to state schools and madrassas will be closed. A notice will be posted in November,” Sarma said.

Sarma also said that many Muslim boys open their Facebook accounts with Hindu names and then trick Hindu girls into marrying them. The BJP leader said that these marriages are not authentic but a betrayal.

Sarma claimed that the Assam government has decided to crack down on this practice and that the government will try to find out whether marriages are being performed as desired or if someone is being tricked into getting married. He added that strict measures will be taken against those marriages that are carried out under false names.

In particular, Assam has 614 government-supported madrasas: 57 for girls, three for boys, and 554 mixed. A total of 17 madarasas teach students in the Urdu medium. There are about 1,000 Sanskrit tols in Assam, of which about 100 receive government aid.
