Assam Polls: Bodoland Popular Front Quits NDA and Joins Congress-Led Alliance | India News


NEW DELHI: The Bodoland Popular Front (BPF) announced on Saturday that it was relinquishing its alliance with the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and joining the Congressional-led coalition ahead of the next Assam election of the assembly.
“We will no longer maintain friendship or alliance with BJP, “President of the Bodoland Popular Front Hagrama Mohilary saying.
“In order to work for peace, unity and development and achieve a stable, corruption-free government in Assam, the Bodoland Peoples’ Front (BPF) has decided to join MAHAJATH. In the next Assam assembly elections, BPF will work hand in hand with Mahajath, “Hagrama Mohilary said in a statement on Facebook.

“Congress is approaching and we are proud to partner with BPF.” Congress Campaign Committee Chairman Pradyut Bordoloi said.
The BJP had previously said that it will not have any alliance with its current ally BPF in the assembly. center.
Relations soured during the recent Bodoland Territorial Council elections, when the saffron party left the BPF and formed the council government in alliance with the UPPL and GSP.
India’s chief elections commissioner Sunil Arora said on Friday that Assam will go to the polls in three phases, starting on March 27.
The vote counting will take place on May 2.
