GUWAHATI: Assam Police a doctor and his son were arrested Wednesday for allegedly wearing a proxy candidate to write the JEE (main) exam held in September, in which the son reached first place among the candidates of Assam with a 99.8 percentile score without taking the exam.
Three other people have also been arrested in this regard and all five have been charged with cheating by impersonation, criminal breach of trust, cheating and criminal conspiracy, a police statement He said.
The police launched the investigation following an FIR filed by Mitradev Sharma from Mathura Nagar, Dispur.
“The candidate left the exam room after biometric assistance with the help of a proctor and instead someone else showed up for the exam,” the FIR said.
According to the FIR, an educational institution assisted the candidate throughout the process.
“The candidate’s father has paid a huge sum of money of approximately 15-20 lakh rupees for this purpose,” the complainant alleged in his FIR.
