Guwahati:
Assam Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said Thursday that the NRC remained incomplete in the state and that “justice” was needed for Hindus living in the Barak Valley region. Sarma, who is the problem solver for the ruling BJP in the Northeast, also alleged that the NRC was not completed due to former coordinator Prateek Hajela.
“We have promised justice to the Hindus of Barak Valley. NRC remained incomplete due to Prateek Hajela. We have done almost 90 percent of the work … we still have a little work to do to provide justice to Hindus,” Sarma said in a meeting. in the Karimganj district in the Barak Valley.
“Thousands of Maa Bharati believers still languish in the detention camps,” he said, adding that the BJP-led government of Assam had set a “new benchmark” in governance in its first term.
Assam’s NRC, whose final list was released in August last year, excludes 19.22 lakh people out of the nearly 3.3 million applicants. The BJP has criticized the list, claiming that many genuine citizens, especially refugees who emigrated from Bangladesh before 1971, are among those excluded.
Speaking to NDTV after the list was released, BJP MLA agitator Silditya Dev alleged that the NRC was part of a “conspiracy to keep Hindus away and help Muslims.”
Earlier this month, lawyers and activists alleged an attempt to reopen the Assam NRC exercise, after the new coordinator, Hitesh Dev Sarma, told the Gauhati High Court that the NRC may have included up to 2.77 lakhs of “unworthy” names due to poor quality control. And control.
Sarma also referred to the recent Bodoland Territorial Council elections, of which the BJP failed to emerge as the largest party but still formed the Council, with the support of the UPPL and GSP, to predict a victory in the elections to the Assembly that were expected in less than six months.
“The 2021 elections, for us, are the fight to protect civilization. So far we have been victorious in saving our civilization,” declared Sarma, adding: “We will fight (the head of the United Democratic Front of All India) Badruddin Ajmal democratically and is persecuted. “
Sarma’s comment comes amid speculation about an alliance between the AIUDF and Congress.
