Patna:
Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owai’s AIMIM party has won three and is leading in two assembly seats in Bihar, where votes are still counted late into the night. All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen entered Bihar in 2019 after winning the by-elections in five seats.
“In politics, you learn from your mistake. Our head of Bihar met personally with each and every one of the leaders of the political parties. No one was willing to touch us. The big parties treated me like an untouchable … The president of our party met with all the important Muslim leaders as well. But nothing worked. I can’t tell you why it didn’t happen, “Owaisi said, adding that he hoped the party would perform better.
AIMIM will later decide which party to support, Owaisi told NDTV.
“It is a very good day for our political party. The people of Bihar have voted for us and given us their blessings. I don’t know how I can thank them,” Owaisi told reporters tonight. “We will work for the people and focus on the areas affected by the floods. I want to thank the people for coming and voting for us despite the pandemic. Something must be missing, so we don’t win any more seats yet. We will sit down together and we will work on the issues and win the seats next time, “said Owaisi.
Given his dislike of the BJP, Owaisi might be more than willing to lend a hand to the Grand Alliance if it falls short of a majority by a few seats.
The Owai party said that people who called their party a “vote cutter” have a solid response.
Before the third phase of the vote, Congress had called AIMIM the “B-team” of the BJP.
“They are trying to hide their frustration. If they are defeated, they blame Owaisi. We started our trip to Bihar five years ago. We have worked for the development of Seemanchal. Later we will decide who we will support. Our fight for justice for Seemanchal will continue it. “Owaisi told NDTV.
The BJP and opponent Rashtriya Janata Dal are locked in a fierce fight again for the top spot in Bihar, the party with the most seats.
Final results will take some time. Describing the conditions that led to the delay, the Election Commission said they have cut the number of counting tables in half from 14 to seven.
The number of votes by mail has increased and also that of rounds. The Election Commission has told the counting officers not to rush and take time. Authorities said the results will arrive late at night.
