Washington: Addressing the COVID-19 pandemic, economic recovery, racial equality and climate change are the Biden administration’s top four priorities, his transition team said Sunday, a day after Joe Biden and his running mate Kamala Harris will win the US elections on November 3.
After a tense week of counting the votes, Democratic presidential candidate Biden won the state of Pennsylvania on Saturday and jumped ahead in the race to become the next president of the United States.
Biden’s victory in the key state of the battlefield placed him above the threshold of 270 electoral votes, cutting off all avenues for his opponent.
As its vice president, Harris will make history in many ways, becoming the first woman, and the first woman of color, to occupy the office.
“We are not just going to rebuild what has worked in the past. This is our opportunity to rebuild better than ever,” said the Biden-Harris transition team, detailing priorities for the next administration.
“President-elect Biden and Vice President-elect Harris are facing a pandemic, an economic crisis, calls for racial justice and climate change. The team that is meeting will face these challenges on the first day,” he said.
Once they take office, Biden and Harris will provide much-needed national leadership to confront the pandemic and begin our nation’s recovery, he said.
Biden and Harris would be sworn in on January 20. The mandate of the transition team is to establish the infrastructure that can ensure a smooth transition from the outgoing administration and run the administration efficiently from day one.
Noting that the American people deserve an urgent, robust and professional response to the growing public health and economic crisis caused by the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, the team said Biden believes the federal government must act quickly and aggressively. to help protect and support families, small businesses, first responders and caregivers essential to help them meet this challenge.
The Biden-Harris administration will always listen to the science, ensure that public health decisions are informed by public health professionals, and promote trust, transparency, common purpose and accountability in government, he said.
Economic recovery is the second top priority for the Biden-Harris administration. In this time of crisis, President-elect Biden has a plan to create millions of high-paying jobs, make it easier for workers to organize unions and bargain collectively, and provide America’s working families with tools, options, and freedom they need to rebuild better, he said.
“That starts with a real strategy to deal with the pandemic. We cannot solve the jobs crisis until we solve the public health crisis. Implement Biden’s comprehensive strategy to control the pandemic and reopen the economy effectively? Protect the health and safety of our people and boosting economic activity? is one of the main priorities of the president-elect, ”said the transition.
“The time has come for our nation to confront systemic racism. To confront the growing economic inequality in our nation. And to confront the denial of this nation’s promise? To so many,” said the transition that list your third priority.
As part of his commitment to uplifting black and brown communities, Biden will also work to build an economy in which all Americans enjoy a fair return for their work and an equal opportunity to get ahead.
A more vibrant and powerful economy precisely because everyone will be included in the deal. An economy in which Black, Latino, Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) and Native American workers and families are finally welcomed as full participants, he said.
President-elect Biden is leading the world to address the climate emergency and leading by the power of example, the transition said.
“Biden knows how to lean on America’s allies, stand up to adversaries, and stand up to any world leader on what needs to be done. Won’t he just re-commit America to the Paris Agreement on climate change? He will go much further than that. He is working to lead an effort for all major countries to increase the ambition of their national climate goals, “he said.
