Farmers protest against Delhi: Water cannons were used at least twice to disperse farmers.

New Delhi:

It is absolutely wrong for farmers to be prevented from holding peaceful demonstrations against the Center’s new agricultural laws and using water cannons against them, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said today.

Haryana set up roadblocks along its border with Punjab on Wednesday as farmers from the neighboring state gathered their trucks on their “Delhi Chalo” march to protest the laws. Water cannons were used at least twice to disperse them and prevent them from going to Delhi.

On Twitter, Delhi’s chief minister said that peaceful demonstration was a constitutional right of farmers.

“The three agricultural bills of the central government are anti-farmers. Instead of withdrawing them, farmers are prevented from holding peaceful demonstrations, water cannons are used against them. This is absolutely wrong. Peaceful demonstrations are their constitutional right.” added. he said in a tweet in Hindi.

Haryana’s government completely sealed its borders with Punjab on Thursday. Large numbers of police personnel have also been deployed along the state’s borders with Delhi.

The Haryana government, ruled by the BJP, has suspended bus services to Punjab.
