Arvind Kejirwal Likely To Meet Amit Shah Amid Covid Surge In Delhi

Arvind Kejriwal has said that the Covid situation in Delhi will be controlled.

Delhi’s Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal will meet Interior Minister Amit Shah this week amid rising coronavirus cases, sources said. The Chief Minister is likely to discuss the need for more ICU beds in hospitals.

Interior Minister Amit Shah and Arvind Kejriwal have met at least twice in recent months to discuss the coronavirus situation in the national capital.

The national capital, which has registered more than 4.82 lakh of cases so far, has hit the third wave of Covid-19, the AAP government had said earlier this month. The city recorded more than 7,300 new cases yesterday and 96 Covid-related deaths. The national capital has around 44,456 active cases, while 7,519 deaths have been reported so far.

Amid the city’s third wave of infections, many hospitals have run out of intensive care beds and even normal COVID-19 beds are rapidly filling up.

On Friday, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said the situation is likely to be brought under control in about 7 to 10 days. “The main reason for the increase in cases is contamination. Delhi had contained an increase in cases, but after the contamination increased, the number of cases also skyrocketed,” he said.

“For the last 10-12 years, due to the burning of stubble, pollution is increasing all over northern India … The media shows the situation in Delhi, but farmers face the biggest problem,” said Arvind Kejriwal.

Yesterday, pollution levels soared in the national capital and nearby areas amid the Diwali celebrations. Many challenged the ban on firecrackers, which was implemented by the NGT green court earlier this month until November 30.

India has so far reported around 88 lakh of coronavirus infections, the second highest in the world after the United States, which has recorded more than 1.08 million infections. But overall, it has been adding fewer cases daily since a peak in mid-September, and its death toll of 92 per million people is well below the world count of 160 and 711 for the United States, according to the news agency.
