Arunachal Local Polls: Massive Leadership for BJP in Arunachal Pradesh Local Bodies Polls | Guwahati News

GUWAHATI: The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (Bjp) in the border state of Arunachal pradesh has taken a massive lead in the panchayat and civic polls. A large number of its candidates have been declared unopposed winners at the end of the nomination withdrawal time on Monday.
The election to the panchayat system of two levels and two urban bodies – Municipal Corporation of Itanagar and Municipal Council of Pasighat – will take place on December 22 with a delay of almost two years. The elections were scheduled for April this year, but were postponed due to the Covid-19 outbreak. The vote count will take place on December 26.
State Elections Commission (SEC) Undersecretary Habung Lampung said that in many areas, candidates have been declared unopposed winners after their opponents withdrew their nomination papers and in some areas there was only one nomination.
He said: “In the Municipal Corporation of Itanagar there are 20 districts and in five, the only candidates have been won unopposed. But in the Pasighat City Council none of the 17 candidates for the eight districts has withdrawn their candidacy ”. He added that so far 96 members of zila parishad (ZPM) out of a total of 242 have won the elections without a contest.
BJP’s Arunachal Pradesh state campaign chairman and state chairman Tarh Tarak said the party gained 96 ZPM seats out of 240 and 5,410 panchayat member (GPM) seats out of 8,291 without contest after the last withdrawal date on Monday and five of Itanagar’s 20 corporate seats.
“The final results after the December 22 elections would give the BJP an overwhelming victory, showing that we are gaining ground in every election,” Tarak said.
The Minister of State of the Union for Youth Affairs and Sports, Kiren Rijiju, who hails from Arunachal Pradesh, said in his tweet: “Congratulations to the BJP candidates who won unopposed in the Panchayat and Municipal polls, 96 out of 240 ZPM, 5410 out of 8291 GPM, 5 out of 20 corporations. Arunachal Pradesh is with PM @NarendraModi Ji. Well guided by @JPNadda Ji, @PemaKhanduBJP Ji, State President BR Wage Ji. ”
