GUWAHATI: Arunachal Pradesh sent a police team to a border area along the McMahon Line that separates the Upper Subansiri district from Tibet on Saturday to investigate the alleged abduction of five tribal porters by the People’s Liberation Army (PLA).
Management was alerted by a Facebook publication in which the brother of one of the missing Tagin youths said that Chinese troops took the group from the Indian army’s ‘Sera-7’ patrol area along the international border near Nacho, about 120 km to the north of the Daporijo district headquarters, on Friday.
According to the post, which was shared on Twitter by MLA Congress Ninong Ering and BJP MP Tapir Gao, the PLA allegedly kidnapped seven men, two of whom escaped.
“The OC from the Nacho police station has been sent to the area to verify the facts. The report will be available on Sunday morning, ”said Upper Subansiri SP Taru Gussar. The Army said it had no information about the alleged kidnapping until the local administration reacted to the post on social media.
“We have alerted our teams and we are in constant contact with the civil administration. The SP of Upper Subansiri said that the police have not yet received a formal report of disappearance, ”said a defense source.
The inhabitants of Nacho, which is 10-12 km from Sera-7, claimed that the missing youths had been hired by the Army as porters to carry supplies and work as guides in an area that does not have passable roads and mobile connectivity. it is almost non-existent. The youths walked into the border area with Army personnel on Thursday, they said.
“It is quite common for local youth to work as porters for the Army. The missing boys must have ventured into the jungles to hunt, fish or gather medicinal herbs after leaving supplies at the Army post, ”said Ering, a former Union minister.
The missing youths have been identified as Prasat Rngling, Toch Singkam, Dongtu Ebiya, Tanu Baker and Ngaru Diri.
