Opening a five-day global virtual summit on Artificial Intelligence (AI), Responsible AI for Social Empowerment or RAISE 2020, Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted how the use of AI will empower India and also warned of dangers.
In June, India along with Australia, the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, France, Germany, New Zealand and others came together to create the Global Association on Artificial Intelligence (GPAI) for the responsible development and use of AI.
This is what PM Modi said:
– As we talk about AI, let’s have no doubt that human creativity and human emotions remain our greatest strength, they are our unique advantage over machines.
– It remains our collective responsibility to ensure trust in how AI is used. The transparency of the algorithm is key to establishing this trust.
– We must protect the world against AI weaponry by non-state actors.
– Artificial intelligence can be used to strengthen our disaster management systems.
– AI will play an important role in agriculture and creating next-generation urban infrastructure.
– The National Forum of Educational Technology is being formed. This will create an e-education unit to drive digital infrastructure, digital content and capacity.
– We launched the ‘Responsible AI for Youth’ program this year in April. Under this program, more than 11,000 school students completed the basic course. Now they are building their AI projects.
– India has recently adopted the National Education Policy 2020. It focuses on technology-based learning and skills as an important part of education. Electronic courses will also be developed in various languages and regional dialects.
– We want India to become a global hub for AI. Many Indians are already working on this. I hope that many more will do so in the times to come.
– AI teamwork with humans can do wonders for our planet.
– In India, we have experienced that technology improves transparency and service delivery.
