Mumbai, November 8

Republic TV editor-in-chief Arnab Goswami, arrested in connection with the suicide of an interior designer, was transferred to Taloja jail in Maharashtra’s Raigad district on Sunday from a COVID-19 quarantine center in Alibaug, he said. A police officer.

Goswami was transferred to Taloja jail after he was allegedly found using a mobile phone while in judicial custody at a local school designated as a COVID-19 center for Alibaug prison in Raigad district, he said.

Raigad’s criminal arm discovered that Goswami was active on social media using someone’s mobile phone, despite the fact that his personal mobile phone had been seized by police when he was detained on November 4, the official said.

While being escorted to Taloja jail, Goswami yelled from the police van, claiming that he was assaulted by the Alibaug jailer on Saturday night, his life was in danger, and he was not allowed to speak to his lawyer.

Meanwhile, in a statement, Samyabrata Ray Goswami, Republic TV’s senior executive editor and wife of Arnab Goswami, said he has been indicted on false charges.

“This morning my husband, who has spent four nights in judicial custody, was being dragged and dragged by the Maharashtra police in a dark police van to Taloja jail.

He repeatedly said that my life is threatened, but to no avail.

“He repeatedly said that the jailer attacked him after he requested access to his lawyers, which was shockingly denied. He detailed the aggression that was inflicted on him during this custody and pleaded, with folded hands, to the Supreme Court to intervene and release him on bail, “he said in the statement.

“An innocent man and journalist with decades of reputation, who is doing his duty for the nation, has been attacked, harassed and framed on trumped-up charges. He has been jailed without any respite,” he said.

Meanwhile, former BJP MP Kirit Somaiya in a tweet said that he met with the jailer at Taloja prison on Sunday and the latter assured him that Goswami will not be harassed and will also receive the necessary medical treatment.

Goswami and two other people, Feroze Shaikh and Nitish Sarda, were arrested by Alibaug police on November 4 in connection with the suicide of architect and interior designer Anvay Naik and his mother in 2018 over alleged non-payment of fees for the companies of the accused.

Following his arrest from his Lower Parel residence in Mumbai, Goswami was taken to Alibaug, where the Chief Judicial Magistrate sent him and the other two into judicial custody until 18 November.

Goswami was then held at a local school that has been designated as a COVID-19 center for Alibaug Prison.

The Mumbai High Court will issue its order on Monday on the application for interim bail filed by Goswami and the other two in relation to the complicity of the suicide case.

A notice issued Saturday night on the superior court’s website said the court would meet at 3 p.m. on Nov.9 to render the order. – PTI
