'India's Most Wanted Part 2': Maharashtra Minister on Arnab Goswami's Arrest

PNC leader Nawab Malik called Arnab Goswami’s arrest “Part 2 of India’s Most Wanted”.

Bombay:

In the wake of the arrest of Republic TV editor-in-chief Arnab Goswami in a suicide complicity case, Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut said on Wednesday that the Maharashtra government Vikas Aghadi or MVA has never acted vindictively against anyone since who came to power last year.

He also claimed that the state government or any political party had nothing to do with the arrest.

Maharashtra Minister and PNC leader Nawab Malik called Arnab Goswami’s arrest “Part 2 of India’s Most Wanted”.

Arnab Goswami was arrested in Mumbai by Raigad police on Wednesday morning for allegedly instigating the suicide of a 53-year-old interior designer in 2018.

“Proper legal procedure is followed in Maharashtra. The police can take action against anyone if they have evidence. The state government has not acted out of revenge,” Raut told reporters when asked about Arnab Goswami’s arrest.

“There is no lawlessness in Maharashtra and the law of the land is followed,” Raut said, adding that the Mumbai police are a professional force.

“It is not a black day for the media. Journalists must also follow ethics. The media is not an investigative agency or a court. This observation is of the highest court. We are all journalists. Whoever does something wrong will be punished by the law. police, “he added. he said.

“The state government or any political party has nothing to do with the arrest,” said the Sena deputy.

Nawab Malik called Arnab Goswami’s arrest “Part 2 of India’s Most Wanted” and recalled the action against a host of a crime TV show who was accused of killing his wife.

Suhaib Ilyasi, who had made a name for himself after hosting the crime television show “India’s Most Wanted”, was charged with murdering his wife in March 2000. However, he was acquitted by the Delhi High Court in October 2018.

“Once upon a time there was a program called India’s Most Wanted & the Anchor that featured murders and suicides, the same presenter was held responsible for the murder of his wife,” Minority Affairs Minister Nawab Malik tweeted, without naming Suhaib Ilyasi.

“Here is Part 2 of India’s Most Wanted, another presenter doing the same now is responsible for the #ArnabArrested suicide,” he added on the microblogging site.

Meanwhile, the head of the BJP state unit, Chandrakant Patil, condemned the arrest saying he intended to silence his voice for speaking out against the Maharashtra government, Congress and its leadership.

Speaking to journalists in Nagpur, “It is a murder of democracy and freedom of expression. Arnab Goswami speaks out against you (government), Congress and party leader Sonia Gandhi. But on that basis, you cannot arrest him.” .

“Reopening this (suicide instigation) case, which was already closed, means that it is an attempt to stop the voice of Arnab Goswami. The BJP and the people of this country will not tolerate it,” added Patil.

“Such attempts to curb freedom of expression were also made during the emergency and Indira Gandhi had to face defeat in the following elections,” he said.

“We condemn this incident and a protest led by me will take place in Nagpur. Similar protests will take place elsewhere in Maharashtra,” said Patil.
