Amid bilateral tensions between India and China, Army Chief General MM Narwane visited Ladakh on Tuesday and discussed a six-week standoff with the Chinese military along with ground commanders. The army chief will also visit further locations and interact with the troops on the ground.

Narwana reviewed India’s military preparedness in eastern Ladakh as he embarked on a two-day visit to the region where 20 Indian troops were released amid a tense standoff with the Chinese People’s Liberation Army in a border conflict last week.

In a tweet, the Indian Army said he met Narvan and spoke with soldiers at Leh’s military hospital. Army officials said that on June 15, eight soldiers injured in the skirmish in the Galwan Valley are undergoing treatment.

The Chief of Army Staff interacted with almost all the wounded soldiers and congratulated them for their bravery.

The visit to Narwana came after the military said Indian and Chinese militants had reached a “mutual consensus” to “disintegrate” from all friction points in eastern Ladakh. This significant development comes amid spiraling border tension following the killing of 20 Indian soldiers in a skirmish in the Galwan Valley.

General Narwen, after visiting the hospital, reviewed the overall security situation in the region with ground commanders and instructed them to maintain a high level of vigilance to deal with any Chinese daring, people familiar with the issue said .

Narwana has to visit many forward areas during her two-day field trip.

Last week, Air Chief Marshal RKS Bhadauria took a quiet tour of the Ladakh and Srinagar airports to review the Indian Air Force’s preparedness to deal with any incident in the area.

Before leaving for Leh, Narwana participated in the final session of a two-day conference of top Army commanders. The situation in East Ladakh was extensively discussed by the commanders.

In Leh, Narwana was also scheduled to hold a comprehensive meeting with Lieutenant General Harinder Singh, the commander of the 14 Corps, taking care of the sensitive border with China.

On Monday, Lieutenant General Singh held an approximately 11-hour meeting with Major General Liu Lin, commander of the Tibet Military District. At the meeting, the two sides reached a “mutual agreement” for “dissolution” from all friction points in eastern Ladakh.
