Army Chief General MM Narwane is in Ladakh on a two-day visit to review the face-to-face situation between Indian and Chinese troops in the Galvan Valley, which killed 20 Indian soldiers on the line of duty last Monday. He will also review progress in negotiations with the Chinese military.
General Narwane met and spoke to the soldiers injured in the clash that took place last week at Leh’s military hospital.
The day after the army chief’s visit, India and China held top-level military talks for more than 11 hours to discuss Galvan’s face-to-face and other points of contention. The Lieutenant General-level meeting, which began at 11.30 am on Monday, was held in Moldo on the Chinese side of Chushul in eastern Ladakh.
During Monday’s top-level military talks, the generals resumed discussions on the disintegration process, which was halted by the worst border confrontation between Indian and Chinese forces since 1967 last week.

General MM Narwane left for Leh after attending the last session of the Army Commanders’ Conference in Delhi.
Officials said the Army Chief discussed the security situation with top Army commanders in Delhi on Monday.
On 15 June 20 soldiers were killed in the line of duty and 76 were wounded in a fatal skirmish refusing to remove a tent as part agreed on 6 June, crude at Indian troops and The barbaric attack was a weapon used by Chinese soldiers, including nail-studded clubs, pointed sticks and stones. Army sources said 45 Chinese soldiers were killed or injured in a dispute on the banks of the Galvan River.
Air Chief Marshal Air Chief Marshal RKS Bhadauria visited Ladakh for two days last week- Wednesday and Thursday to review the preparations of the Indian Air Force. He visited Leh airbase on Wednesday and Srinagar airbase in Jammu and Kashmir the next day. Helicopters, including an Indian Air Force fighter jet and a recently acquired Apache helicopter, were spotted in Leh last week.
