The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has issued an order reiterating the travel guidelines and mandatory quarantine protocol for all passengers arriving from the UK in Bombay.

In its circular dated December 21, the BMC said: “It has been reported that a distinct phylogenetic group of SARs-CoV-2 (called lineage 8.1.1.7) has been detected. This SARs-CoV-2 is spreading and growing. quickly in the United Kingdom (United Kingdom). In view of this, all flights originating in the United Kingdom to India have been temporarily suspended from 23.59 hours, from 22 December to 31 December (23.59 hours) by the Government of India, I saw the above mentioned circular “.

According to BMC, as of December 21, the following directives are issued under the Epidemic Diseases Act of 1897 and the Disaster Management Act of 2005 to be followed at Mumbai International Airport as a precautionary measure to prevent the spread of the new mutant coronavirus in Mumbai. :


1. All passengers arriving from the United Kingdom, directly or by indirect flights, must be subjected to mandatory institutional quarantine at their expense, in nearby hotels for seven days.

2. If the passenger exhibits symptoms upon arrival, they will be transferred directly to Seven Hills Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

3. Upon arrival, no RT-PCR test will be performed. However, the RT-PCR test will be carried out from the 5th to the 7th in the hotels run by the quarantined passengers. If the test report is negative, the passenger would be discharged from the institutional quarantine after 5 to 7 days with the notice of 7 days of mandatory home quarantine. If the test result is positive but asymptomatic, it will continue in the same quarantined hotel or in the COVID-19 Hospital up to 14 days.

4. Arrangements to be made by BEST to transport all passengers from the UK on direct or indirect flights to hotels.

5. Arrangements of approximately 800 rooms will be required immediately on 21st December for passengers arriving from the UK. The charges of the hotels will be borne by the passengers according to the choice of the hotels.

6. The passports of all passengers will be deposited at the hotel and returned at the time of discharge from the hotel quarantine.

7. PPE equipment that Mumbai International Airport Ltd. will provide to immigration officers and all persons working at the airport.

8. The arrangement for the tests of these passengers will be made by linking private laboratories to the quarantine hotels and the same will be charged to the passengers.

9. Collector MSD will monitor operations and delegate appropriate teams to follow up.

10. These guidelines apply to all passengers arriving at Mumbai International Airport from the UK, regardless of their subsequent journey. plans.
