The recently launched iPhone SE (2020) model by Apple has not only made the mid-range smartphone market more competitive than ever, it has also generated more enthusiasm for the upcoming iPhone 12 series. And forecasters have already leaked enough about smartphones, now a massive leak from Max Weinbach from XDA developer occurs via video on YouTube channel EverythingApplePro. Weinbach talks about the cameras in detail, colors, design, and other details related to the iPhone 12.
According to Weinbach, the only component that has prevented Apple from moving forward with the production of the iPhone 12 is the rear camera setup. However, the company appears to have discovered the rest. The tipster has also detailed the camera features that will come in the new iPhones.
Apple iPhone 12 rear camera specs and features
Earlier this year, there were rumors indicating the arrival of a 64-megapixel camera sensor on the back of iPhone 12 models, but it looks like that won’t happen this year. Weinbach reports that Apple engineers were not satisfied with the autofocus performance of the 64-megapixel sensor, so it may not be able to make the cut this year. This means that the iPhone 12 could return to keep 12-megapixel sensors for this generation.
On the upside, Apple will focus much more on low-light photography this year. The phones are said to have improved autofocus for low-light situations due to larger sensors, LiDAR, and software enhancements. In case you don’t know, the iPhone 12 is rumored to come with four camera sensors on the back, with the LiDAR as the additional sensor over the three existing sensors. Weinbach adds that cameras could also have better subject recognition and better slow-motion video recording in low-light situations. Also, registration exposure photography and white balance (especially on faces) may be improved.
The inclusion of the LiDAR sensor can also mean that the iPhone 12 can finally incorporate the portrait video function. However, its internal performance is not said to be on par and Apple could delay it to next year’s iPhone. On the other hand, the telephoto lens in particular can get up to 3x optical zoom, 1x more than the current 2x zoom of the iPhone 11 Pro Max. This will add to the compatibility with “Night Mode”.
The microphones on iPhones are also said to have been enhanced with more precision and precise beamforming.
Apple iPhone 12 design
Weinbach confirms that the Apple iPhone 12 series may have flat sides as in the iPhone 5, 5S. It is also mentioned that the engineers discovered that this design is more robust than those currently in use or in the iPhone 6 to iPhone 8 models.

Apple iPhone 12 screen
As for the screen, it has been mentioned that the iPhone 12 will get ProMotion technology, which means a refresh rate of 120Hz. However, it will only hit the high-end 6.1 and 6.7-inch “Pro” models. Low-end 5.4-inch and 6.1-inch models will remain limited to 60Hz. And of course they will all feature OLED panels. Apple is also working on dynamic switching between the 60Hz and 120Hz refresh rates to keep battery performance intact. The iPhone 12 will likely change the refresh rates based on the apps you’re using.

It has been mentioned that the notch will be reduced on new iPhones. But they will still be there. Don’t expect an iPhone without notches this year. What’s interesting is that the notch is not only shrinking, but it’s also gaining new abilities. One of them is the widest angle of use for FaceID, which means the iPhone can be unlocked even at more extreme angles.

Apple iPhone 12 battery
On the battery front, Weinbach adds that while the exact battery capacity is not known for the iPhone 12 series, it will definitely be more than current models. This has been done to provide similar performance using the 120Hz refresh rate.
Weinbach predicts that the four rumored iPhones may be called iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Plus, while the high-end version could be called iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max.
