Anurag Kashyap summoned by police after Payal Ghosh’s rape and FIR accusation against him


Anurag Kashyap has been subpoenaed by Mumbai police for the sexual assault complaint and subsequent FIR alleging rape recorded against him by Payal Ghosh. The filmmaker has been asked to be present at the Versova police station on Thursday morning at 11am. On Tuesday it was confirmed that he was to be summoned by Mumbai police for questioning about the complaint.

Payal Ghosh had registered a sexual assault complaint against Anurag Kashyap at the Versova Police Station in Mumbai on September 22, three days after speaking out about the alleged incident. She had tagged Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking action against Kashyap and safety for her after claiming that he had imposed himself on her around 2014-15. This is in addition to another complaint that she filed with the Office of Narcotics Control alleging that she used drugs and another complaint with the National Commission for Women.

The First Informative Report (FIR) against Anurag Kashyap had been filed against Sections 376 (I) (rape), 354 (assault or use of criminal force on a woman with the intention of outraging her modesty), 341 (undue restraint) and 342 (wrongful confinement) of the Indian Penal Code.

Previously, Payal Ghosh had also been questioned about the statements of the Versova police, where she had registered her complaint.

Meanwhile, Payal Ghosh is receiving support from politicians in the midst of his battle for justice. Union Minister Ramdas Athavale joined her at a press conference recently, where she warned police of her RPI party’s protest if no action is taken for seven days. The minister also helped the actress to present her petition to the Governor of Maharashtra, Bhagat Singh Koshiyari.

Payal Ghosh had tweeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on September 19, seeking an action against Anurag Kashyap, claiming that it had been imposed on her around 2014-15. She has filed a police complaint against the director and has also filed petitions with the National Commission for Women and another with the Office of Narcotics Control alleging that Kashyap used drugs.
