Anurag Kashyap issued a summons to be present for questioning in the rape case against him

MUMBAI Police issued a summons to filmmaker Anurag Kashyap to be present for questioning on Thursday in connection with a rape case brought against him by an actress. Officials from the Versova Police Station issued the summons to Kashyap, who lives on Yari Road, Andheri (West), on Wednesday.

The incident comes days after the actress accused the police of showing lack of urgency in the investigation of her complaint.

In an FIR recorded last week, the actress had accused Kashyap of committing rape. outrage her modesty and confine her unjustly. She told police that the sexual assault took place in 2013.

The actress also alleged that Kashyap had misbehaved with three other actresses, each of whom has denied his allegations. Kashyap had issued a statement a day later denying the allegations.

While the president of the National Commission for Women, Rekha Sharma, asked the actress to file a written complaint, Kashyap received support from her colleagues in the film industry.

On September 27, the actress and her lawyer visited the Versova police station to demand that the complaint be investigated as a matter of priority. She also threatened to go on a hunger strike unless the police soon arrested Kashyap.

On September 28, the actress met with the Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment, Ramdas Athawale, who later announced that his party, the RPI, would launch an agitation if Kashyap was not arrested within a week.
