Anurag Kashyap gave police evidence that he was in Sri Lanka at the time of the alleged sexual assault: lawyer


Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has denied allegations that he sexually assaulted a 30-year-old actor in his Mumbai flat in August 2013, during his questioning by Mumbai police, and said he was busy filming one of his films in Sri Lanka as the incident unfolds. it allegedly happened in Mumbai.

Kashyap, who was questioned by Mumbai police for about eight hours on Thursday, provided documentary evidence of his claim, according to a statement issued by his lawyer Priyanka Khimani on Friday.

“Kashyap has provided documentary evidence of the fact that throughout August 2013 he was in Sri Lanka in connection with the shooting of one of his films. Kashyap has categorically denied that such an alleged incident took place and has also denied all the accusations made against him, ”the statement said.

The statement further alleged that the allegations of sexual abuse directed against Kashyap were intended to publicly vilify him.

“These sudden and belated accusations of an alleged incident in August 2013 have been widely publicized by the whistleblower for the purpose of defaming Kashyap, regardless of the outcome of the judicial process,” Khimani said in the statement.

“Kashyap fears that now that the falsity of her allegations has been established in the FIR, she will also alter her version of events in the investigation process. Kashyap is distraught over the reckless and false accusations made against him that have caused pain to him, his family and his fans. Kashyap intends to vigorously pursue the legal remedies available to him, ”the statement added.

The actor had recently alleged that Kashyap had called her at home and behaved inappropriately. Her FIR claims that Kashyap called her to her apartment located on Yari Street in Andheri (West) in August 2013 on the pretext of having a discussion about the casting of one of her upcoming films and then ended up sexually assaulting her.

The actor has brought a case against Kashyap under sections 376 (1) (rape), 354 (assault or use of criminal force on a woman with the intent to violate her modesty), 341 (undue restraint) and 342 (confinement undue) of the Indian Penal. Code (IPC) at the Versova police station on September 22.
