Protests erupted in Los Angeles after police fatally shot a black man during a clash Monday afternoon. Los Angeles law enforcement authorities have claimed the man was carrying a handgun at the time of the incident, the New York Times reported.
According to Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies, the man was riding a bicycle when they tried to stop him for allegedly violating a vehicle code. The man then dismounted from his bicycle and fled, authorities said.
When the police authorities caught up with him, he allegedly punched one of them in the face. Sheriff’s officers claim it was then that they realized the man was carrying a black semi-automatic pistol, CNN reported. They then opened fire and shot the man “multiple times,” Sheriff’s Lt. Brandon Dean told reporters. Protests soon erupted at the scene of the incident.
Meanwhile, the streets of Kenosha have been overrun by protesters since the shooting of African American Jacob Blake, which left him paralyzed. On the third night of demonstrations, at least two people were killed and one injured after a 17-year-old named Kyle Rittenhouse opened fire on the protesters.

President Trump will meet with police officers in Kenosha as part of his presidential campaign before Election Day in November. “Law and order” is a central part of his campaign, and the president plans to use Kenosha as a stage to convey his point of view to American voters, the BBC reported.
In the US state of Oregon, the governor called outside law enforcement authorities after a person was fatally shot in a violent clash between a group of protesters and Trump supporters in Portland on Saturday. The man who died was later identified as a Trump supporter.
Protests in the city have raged for the past 90 days, since George Floyd’s death in Minneapolis. However, in recent weeks the number of protesters dropped dramatically. The Jacob Blake shooting prompted a resumption of demonstrations in the city, CNN reported.
Here are some of the top developments from across the United States:
Trump will not visit the family of the black man who was shot: the White House
During his visit to Kenosha, Wisconsin on Tuesday, US President Donald Trump will not visit the family of the African-American man who was shot by police in the city last week. At a recent press conference, Trump said he had decided not to visit the man’s family because they wanted to involve his lawyers, CNN reported.
“Well, I spoke with the pastor (of the family)… and I thought it would be better not to do anything where there were lawyers involved. They wanted me to speak, ”said the president of the United States. “They wanted to have lawyers involved and I thought it was inappropriate, so I didn’t do that. But I did speak with the family pastor. “
‘Fires are burning, Pres Trump is fanning the flames,’ says Biden
Democratic Party presidential candidate Joe Biden has accused President Trump of doing little to end months of unrest in the United States. He went on to describe Trump’s leadership as “a toxic presence in our nation,” reported AFP.
Speaking at a campaign event in Pennsylvania, former US Vice President Joe Biden said: “The fires are burning and we have a president who fanns the flames instead of fighting the flames.”
“The incumbent president is unable to tell us the truth, unable to face the facts and unable to heal,” he added. During his 22-minute speech, Biden affirmed that Trump could not end the violence in the United States, “because he has tormented it for years.”
Jacob Blake’s father ‘refuses to do politics’ ahead of Trump visit
The father of African American Jacob Blake, who was paralyzed after he was shot by a police officer last week, regrets not “playing politics” with his son’s life during US President Donald Trump’s visit to Kenosha on Tuesday, BBC reported.
“I don’t get into politics. It’s about my son, man. It has nothing to do with a photo shoot, ”said Blake’s father, Jacob Blake Sr., in an interview with CNN. He added that his son, who is paralyzed from the waist down, is still “enduring life.”
Trump defends Kenosha shooting suspect Kyle Rittenhouse
US President Donald Trump defended 17-year-old Kyle Rittenhouse, who was recorded opening fire on a group of Black Lives Matter protesters in Kenosha, killing two and wounding one, the New York Times reported.
“He was trying to get away from them, I guess … and he fell,” Trump said in the White House coronavirus update news release Monday. “And then they attacked him very violently.”
Trump suggested that Rittenhouse was simply acting in self-defense. “I was in big trouble. They probably would have killed him, but he’s under investigation, ”he said.
Wisconsin Governor urges Trump not to visit Kenosha
The White House has decided to go ahead with Trump’s trip to Kenosha despite a letter from Wisconsin Democratic Governor Tony Evers urging the president not to visit the city while it “recovers” after the recent shootings.
“I am concerned that your presence only hinders our healing. I am concerned that their presence will only delay our work to overcome the divide and move forward together, ”Evers wrote in the letter, according to a CNN report.
“It is our job as elected officials to lead by example and be a reassuring presence for people who we know are suffering, grieving and trying to cope with trauma. Now is not the time for division, “he added.
