The line started at 4.30am and was so long that some hungry customers left without trying the famous biryani.
Yet another Sunday, long lines were seen on the outskirts of Anand Dum Biryani in Hoskote, on the outskirts of Bangalore. The line started at 4.30am and was so long that some hungry customers left without trying the famous biryani. “The long lines that started after we reopened last month continued today and unfortunately we were unable to serve everyone who turned up,” Anand, the owner of the popular Biryani hotspot, told TNM.
Although Anand does not have exact figures, he estimates that sales have increased 20% since the restaurant reopened following the relaxation of closing restrictions in early September.

Located about 25 kilometers from the center of Bengaluru city, many people start their trip to Biryani place at 4am. The owner was no stranger to long lines before, but says a video uploaded by Food Lovers TV on YouTube documenting biryani and the craze for it has led to a rebound in business in the last month. The video uploaded to Food Lover’s TV currently has 1.4 million views. There have been equally popular videos of the Biryani site posted by other outlets.
The owner told Food Lover TV’s Kripal Amanna that they tend to use locally grown ingredients and also raise their own sheep for the lamb. A huge pot of biryani is cooked over a wood flame before finishing with a charcoal dum. They begin the cooking process in the early hours of the day before getting ready to serve customers at 6am.
It seems that Bengaluru residents might have to start waking up even earlier to try biryani if long lines are anything to go by. Anand started making biryani several years ago, but admits that his establishment initially served idlis and chitranna. But now the restaurant is focusing on its biryani, which has become the talk of Bengaluru.
