Lucknow:
The Uttar Pradesh Congress removed senior leader Annu Tandon from the party on Thursday shortly after she announced her resignation citing “misalignment with leadership at the state level.”
Pointing his gun at state leaders, Tandon said he sent his resignation to party chair Sonia Gandhi.
When asked about it, the head of the UP Congress, Ajay Kumar Lallu, said that “she has been expelled from the party for six years on charges of anti-party activities.”
She “had not been interested in party programs for a long time” and the party’s disciplinary committee examined these charges, Lallu added.
The development comes days before the by-elections on November 3 in the Bangarmau Assembly seat under Unnao, once represented by Tandon in Lok Sabha.
In a statement released to the media in the morning, Ms Tandon said that she had asked Sonia Gandhi to accept her resignation immediately.
While claiming that he had continually received warmth and guidance from Speaker of Congress Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi during his 15-year association with the party, Tandon said there is a “misalignment among leaders at the state level” and that he did not see their support. . it’s been on your way for the past few months.
“The party’s state leadership has focused solely on social media management and self-branding and is unaware of the deep divisions in the party and voters it has caused,” Tandon said.
She said a select few irrelevant locals were spreading hoaxes for her and her associates.
Calling it “painful and disgusting,” he said the party leadership did not try to stop this.
Ms. Tandon said that she had raised the matter with UP manager Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who assured that the president of Congress is fully informed of the situation. However, the matter remained unresolved.
“My ideology and my principles have been aligned with the top leadership of the party and my resignation does not change this,” he said, adding that he would be consulting his workers on the future path.
