Activist Anna Hazare, who has repeatedly expressed her solidarity with farmers protesting the new farm laws, said on Monday that she will go on a hunger strike if she demands such autonomy as the Commission on Agricultural Costs and Prices (CACP) and implement the Minimum Support Price. (MSP) the recommendations of the Swaminathan Commission are not met.
In a letter written to the Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar, Hazare reminded the government of the promises made to him by Tomar’s predecessor, Radha Mohan Singh, in February 2019.
Hazare I had started a hunger strike on topics such as the appointment of Lokpal and the improvement of farmers’ incomes on January 29, 2019. After eight days, the then Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis, had met with Hazare in Ralegan Siddhi with a letter from Singh, promising that a high-level committee, which included former agriculture ministers and representatives of various farmers’ unions, would be formed to analyze the issues, and a report would be prepared by October 2019.
“This (promise) has not been fulfilled. I started thinking about relaunching the hunger strike. I will inform you of the date and place of the upheaval, ”Hazare wrote.
Last week, in a video message, he warned farmer leaders not to trust promises made by the government, saying that written promises made to him by the PMO, the Union Minister of Agriculture, and other ministers will never were fulfilled.
“I protested and began a fast to death on March 23 at Ramlila Maidan in Delhi in 2017. After seven days of turmoil, Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a letter to me through then Minister of Agriculture, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat. , head of Maharashtra. Minister Devendra Fadnavis and others promised me that the CACP will have autonomy and the MSP will set itself at c2 + 50 percent (c2 is a weighted average cost of production), ”Hazare said.
He also urged protesters to remain at peace as the violence would give the government a chance to crush the unrest by force.
