Anna Hazare farmers protest: Anna Hazare announces indefinite fast, cancels it hours later | India News

NEW DELHI: social activist Anna hazare on Friday he said he will not proceed with the indefinite fast against the new agricultural laws and said the central government has accepted some of his demands.
In a statement earlier in the day, Hazare (84) had announced that he would begin the hunger strike from his village Ralegan Siddhi in Maharashtra on Saturday.
In that communication, Hazare had said that he had written to the Union’s prime minister and agriculture minister five times about the plight of farmers, but to no avail.
“The Union government accepted some of my demands and also announced the creation of a committee to improve the lives of farmers. I have decided to suspend my proposal for an indefinite fast as of Saturday,” Hazare said.
In announcing the hunger strike, Hazare had said: “I have been demanding reforms in the agricultural sector, but the Center does not seem to be making the right decisions.”
“The Center does not have any sensitivity for farmers, so I am starting my indefinite fast in my village from January 30,” he had said and had asked his followers not to flock to the district of his village in view of the coronavirus pandemic.
Hazare, who was at the forefront of the anti-corruption movement in 2011, recalled that when he went on a hunger strike in Delhi Ramlila Maidan, the then government of the UPA had summoned an extraordinary session of the Parliament.
