Andhra Pradesh civic elections: Jagan’s party wins 73 out of 75 municipalities | India News

AMARAVATI: Jaganmohan reddy‘s YSR Congress Party Sunday did a clean sweep of civic elections in Andhra Pradesh, winning the 11 municipal corporations and 73 of the 75 municipalities in which the votes were carried out on March 10.
“People have overwhelmingly supported CM Jagan’s three capitals theory,” said Ambati Rambabu, a YSRC spokesperson.
The opposition TDP pocketed two civic bodies: the municipalities of Tadipatri and Mydukur. The result of the elections to the Eluru Municipal Corporation was withheld in view of a suspension from the Andhra Pradesh high court, which is hearing a case related to the voter list update process.
Asaduddin Owaisi’s AMIM, which participated in the elections for the first time in AP, won only one municipal district in the city of Hindupur.
YSRC win in Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada and Guntur is being seen as a major setback for TDP. N. Chandrababu Naidu’s party did not reach double digits in many cities. Although TDP won with a majority in Tadipatri and Mydukur, the YSRC is likely to take the president’s posts there with the help of ex officio votes. This, in effect, means that YSRCP it will control all the civic bodies of the state. The Janasena-BJP combine was also a success.
YSRC’s victory in the municipal elections is even better than its performance in the assembly elections almost two years ago and the panchayat polls last month. The party had won nearly 85 percent of the assembly seats in the 2019 elections and took more than 83 percent of the panchayats.
