At least 13 people, including 11 farm workers, were electrocuted to death when a trailer truck they were traveling in hit a utility pole and then a live high-voltage cable fell on them. The other two victims in the accident were the tractor driver and an assistant.
The incident occurred at Machavaram in the Prakasam district of Andhra Pradesh at dusk.
Authorities said about 30 women working in the chile fields were returning home in the trailer truck when the driver lost control and struck a utility pole on the side of the road. Due to the impact, a live high voltage fell on the tractor, electrocuting at least 13 of them. Others escaped with burns.
