Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge has turned 25 since its release on Tuesday and the entire cast and crew of the film are happy to look back on fond memories of making the film. Among them is Bollywood stylist Anaita Shroff Adajania, who played the role of Kajol’s friend Sheena in the film. Now he has shared a boomerang video and some photos to remind his fans of his pivotal role along with precious anecdotes about the cult classic.
Anaita (Sheena) was one of Simran’s (Kajol) friends who had accompanied her on a trip to Europe and had also flirted with Shah Rukh Khan’s Rahul during the club scene. Talking about how he got the role, he wrote on Instagram: “I was in college when Adi (Aditya Chopra) and Karan (Johar) asked me to help them choose my friends from college to play Raj and Simran’s friends in the movie. This was my introduction to the film industry, a world I knew nothing about at the time. In the process, they convinced me to play Sheena. I did it to laugh and spend a paid vacation in Europe with my best friend, which was a big deal for a bankrupt student. “
Like all Shah Rukh Khan fans, even Anaita was surprised to see him on the film set. She continued: “I remember arriving in Saanen, a small town in Switzerland, fresh off the bus (ok, plane) and seeing Shahrukh in his black suit on a little bridge … and to me I felt like he was there just to! me! I’m sure whoever saw him on that bridge felt the same, that’s why he’s Shahrukh. Kajol was simply Kajol: real, instinctive, full of love (and still gives the strongest hugs). “
Anaita also mentioned that cinema was a completely different business 25 years ago, in contrast to the way movies are made today. She said: “You have to remember that these were times when there were no entourages, no managers, no cell phones, no social media… making movies was much simpler, but extremely exciting. Once we were there, we were cut off from the rest of the world for over a month. We would all live together, we would eat together, we would sing together, we would dance together … we became a real family, under the warm gaze of a legend like Uncle Yash (Yash Chopra). Adi knew the DDLJ from its core and strived for nothing less than perfection. We all hang out and help each other in ways that only close friends and close families do. “

The film costume designer also appeared in another Shah Rukh Khan film, Kal Ho Naa Ho in 2003, in which she played the role of Saif Ali Khan’s friend Gita. Although she’s happy that she didn’t continue acting, she ended her Instagram post by saying, “I never had acting ambitions (thankfully), I’m so glad I was a part of this brilliant movie and that I can still call everyone that. I worked with a friend. I am very happy to have been a small part of this huge legacy. # DDLJ25 # 25yearsofDDLJ @yrf #adityachopra “.
