Delhi may have seen a sudden spike in Covid-19 cases after the Nizamuddin Markaz event, but it has done tremendous work compared to its peers in controlling the number of deaths caused by the virus.
News18.com conducted an analysis of 34 of the world’s top Covid-19 hotspot cities (in some cases provinces) and Delhi’s death rate of 2.10 percent placed it at number 4 only after Singapore (0 , 10), Moscow (0.88) and Berlin (2.05).
Berlin’s low mortality rate is a function of evaluating large numbers of people, isolation and physical distance. The handling of the pandemic by Germany has been acclaimed, mainly due to the low mortality rate compared to other European nations. Furthermore, only about a fifth (20%) of cases in Germany belong to the group over 60 years old.
Singapore’s containment model was also applauded worldwide: they adopted aggressive testing, meticulous contact tracking, and very strict isolation, though cases have doubled in recent days, suggesting that even flattening the curve may not be Enough on the way to normal.
Brussels has reported 1,014 deaths out of a total of 4,438 cases; Its 22.85 percent death rate is the worst among the 34 cities. Belgium is peculiar in counting deaths: not only the actual number linked to the virus counts, but also any suspected cases, whether the person has been tested or not.
Bergamo is the most affected city in Italy with 2,200 deaths and 10,946 cases. Located northeast of Milan, in the Lombardy region, it is directly connected to the European capitals by the Orio al Serio Airport, making it a tourist center: this was one of the main reasons for the devastation caused in the city.
Delayed testing and late closure along with a high percentage of smoking among men (16.5% men smoke in the UK) are some of the main reasons why London has a high death rate of 18.89 percent .
New York and New Jersey together represent 2.41,743 cases in the US. USA, Just over 27 percent of all cases in the United States. New York has also recorded a fifth of all deaths in the United States.
Istanbul is a big surprise at number 3. With 61074 cases, it represents 60 percent of the total number of cases in Turkey. The country is the largest access point in the Middle East.
While New York has registered 10,290 deaths, Madrid with 7,684 has represented a little more than a third (34.1 percent) of the total number of deaths in Spain.
Six of the 10 worst cities in this analysis in terms of total deaths lie between latitudes 40 degrees north and 42 degrees north: New York (40.71), Madrid (40.42), New Jersey (40.06), Chicago (41.88), Istanbul (41) and Wayne County (42), something scientists are now studying to understand how the virus spreads and whether conditions like humidity affect it. .
Speaking of Indian cities, while Pune and Indore have a relatively high death rate, the absolute number of deaths in large Indian cities is much lower compared to some of the major cities in the world.
In fact, Delhi, Pune and Indore are among the last 5 in terms of total deaths among the 37 cities analyzed.
However, financial capital remains a major concern for India: Mumbai has reported 178 deaths, representing 23.27% of the total number of deaths in the country. The mortality rate is 4%, since the total number of cases exceeds 4,400.
Wuhan, the epicenter of the Covid-19 virus in the world, accounted for almost 84 percent of total deaths in China. It also shows how effective the Chinese blockade was in containing the spread of the virus to other cities in the country.
Guayaquil, the main port and the largest city in Ecuador, reported 70 percent of all cases in the country, the highest percentage in the analysis. The first Covid-19 patient from Ecuador was a 71-year-old woman who returned from Madrid to Guayaquil.
Many people from Ecuador, students and migrant workers, live in Italy and Spain and returned to the country in March on spring break, causing an increase in cases.
Daegu in South Korea, where the infamous Patient 31 became a Super-Spreader, accounts for 64.04 percent of South Korea’s cases.
Mumbai, with more than 4400 cases, constitutes 18.01% of the total number of cases in India and is among the top 10 cities in this regard.
SOME INTERESTING OBSERVATIONS:
– Rio de Janeiro represents 15.75% of the total deaths in Brazil. It also has a high mortality rate of 8.59 percent.
– Manaus, in the Brazilian state of Amazonas (surrounded by the Amazon rainforests) was devastated by the deaths of Covid-19. A mortality rate of 8.10% has been reported.
– Heinsberg is known as the Wuhan of Germany with 1,695 cases and 58 deaths.
– Chicago has the highest death rate in the United States: 10.02%, higher than New York City.
– Ticino Canton is an Italian-speaking region in southern Switzerland that reported the country’s first Covid-19 case. It has the highest mortality rate of 9.11% in Switzerland.
– Pune’s mortality rate of 6.4% is higher than that of Tehran, Los Angeles and New Jersey, among others.
– New York, New Jersey, Madrid, Istanbul and Wuhan are the five most affected cities if we take a combination of number of cases and deaths.
