Licypriya Kangujam, an eight-year-old climate and environmental activist, has personally sent a letter to President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s office, asking them to postpone the National Cum Income Eligibility Test (NEET), which is scheduled by September 13, 2020..
In addition to NEET, the green activist has also requested the postponement of JEE Main, JEE Advanced, third-year college exams, CBSE Compartmental exams, NDA, DUET and other exams without further delay, to save the lives of “millions of students. “
In a letter delivered to the PMO and President Kovind on September 2, Kangujam said that India has not only recorded the world’s highest daily increase in coronavirus cases, but has been devastated by floods that have affected around 14 districts of the country.
While admitting that standard operating procedures are being followed in some test centers, Kangujam said that “many test centers failed miserably to follow the proper guidelines and standard operating procedures” issued by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
He also added that since students are under “extreme stress, anxiety and trauma,” taking tests during this pandemic would be akin to forcing them to compromise their health.
He also added that since the exams have already been postponed for a few months, postponing them even further would not cause much harm to the student’s caregiver.
