Union Interior Minister Amit Shah will open a four-day event on Sunday to showcase the diverse potentials of Northeast India such as ecotourism, culture, heritage and business.
The inauguration will be carried out via videoconference and the Minister of Development of the Union of the Northeast Region, Jitendra Singh, will be the guest of honor of the event.
The ‘Northeast Destination-2020’ is organized by the Ministry of Development of the Northeast Region annually. The objective of the event is to celebrate and show the culture of the northeast region to other parts of the country to strengthen national integration, according to an official statement.
The theme of this year’s event is ‘Emerging Enchanting Destinations’. The event, which is organized on the day of World Tourism Day, tries to focus on emerging tourist destinations in the region.
Singh, introducing the logo and main theme of the event earlier this week, said that the event aims not only to attract tourists to the region but also young entrepreneurs to take advantage of the untapped potential of the region.
Once the coronavirus crisis subsides, the region will be sought after by tourists, as it is largely virus-free and safe, the minister said. The region’s focus on “Vocal for Local” makes it an important driver for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for Atmanirbhar Bharat, he added.
