Amit Shah talks to CMs from Tamil Nadu and Kerala about Cyclone Burevi and promises all possible help


Union Interior Minister Amit Shah spoke with the top ministers of Tamil Nadu and Kerala on Thursday as Cyclone Burevi moved towards the southern coast of India. The cyclonic storm is expected to make landfall on Thursday night or early Friday morning.

“The Modi government is committed to all possible support to help the people of Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Several NDRF teams are already deployed in both states, ”Shah said on Twitter.

The Indian Meteorology Department (IMD) issued a red alert for Kerala’s Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta and Alappuzha districts for December 3. There is also a red alert for four districts of Tamil Nadu.

After hitting the coast of Tamil Nadu, the cyclone is expected to cross into Kerala on Thursday night or Friday morning.

“Cyclone Burevi will emerge in the Gulf of Mannar in the next 3 hours. It will arrive near Pamban and Kanniyakumari around noon and will cross the southern coast of Tamilnadu from the third night to the fourth morning, ”IMD said on Twitter Thursday morning.

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has deployed 26 relief teams to Tamil Nadu and Kerala kept one team in reserve at Puducherry.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with the Chief Ministers of Tamil Nadu and Kerala on Wednesday and discussed the situation prevailing in some parts of the states due to the incoming cyclone and pledged all possible support from the Center.

“We discussed the conditions that prevail in some parts of the state due to Cyclone Burevi. Center will provide all possible support to TN. I pray for the well-being and safety of those living in the affected areas, ”tweeted Prime Minister Modi.

Cyclone Burevi, named after the Maldives, will not be as strong as Cyclone Nivar that hit the north coast of Tamil Nadu last week, officials from the meteorological department said. They said the storm is expected to have a speed of 80 to 90 km / hour, unlike Nivar, which had a speed of 110 to 130 km / hour.
