Srinagar:
Union Interior Minister Amit Shah, describing the alliance of Jammu and Kashmir’s main political parties as a “gang” has shown India and its democracy in an extremely poor light, Congress Leader Saifuddin said on Wednesday. Soz, blaming the BJP for “great damage” to the government. democratic system of the country.
Shah had attacked the political leaders of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday with a series of accusations that included getting “foreign forces to intervene” in the center’s decision to remove the special powers of the former state, taking away the rights of women and Dalits. and returning the “terror and confusion”.
In a series of tweets, he also targeted Congress, a signatory to last year’s Gupkar Declaration that forged the coalition, and called the People’s Alliance for the Gupkar Declaration or PGAD the “Gupkar Gang” which, according to he said, it was an “ungodly global gathbandhan” against the national interest of the country.
In a statement, Soz said: “It is really regrettable that Interior Minister Amit Shah had to stoop so low and call Kashmir’s democratic political parties a ‘gang’.
“He has shown India and its democracy in an extremely poor light when he called the mainstream union of Kashmir as ‘Gupkar Gang’,” said the congressional leader.
The BJP-led central government has already caused “great damage” to the system of government in India by suggesting that only it can safeguard India’s democratic system, Soz said.
“The current government in the center has brought a bad name to India and its democracy and now it is a great shock to the whole system that the union of the mainstream of Kashmir is seen as a threat to the democratic system of India,” he said .
“One wonders why the democratic activity of the main parties of Kashmir – NC, INC, PDP, PC, ANC and others is seen as an interruption by the Interior Minister and others,” he added.
By not accepting the coalition in Kashmir, the interior minister was expecting a configuration that was not democratic, Soz asked.
“Regarding the status of J&K, the constitutional relationship with the union has already suffered a severe setback in recent years and the damage appears to be irreparable,” he said, referring to last year’s decision to remove the special status of Jammu and Kashmir. and dividing into two territories of the union.
Two days before the move, the Gupkar Declaration was signed on August 4, 2019, after an all-party meeting at the Gupkar Road residence, the patriarch of the National Conference, Farooq Abdullah. It marked a resolution to assist regional parties and Congress to protect Jammu and Kashmir’s special constitutional status and fight any move to dilute it.
This August, the political parties had met again and announced the formation of the PGAD, promising to fight for the restoration of the previous status.
