Interior Minister Amit Shah on Thursday paid tribute to former APJ president and scientist Abdul Kalam on his 69th birthday.
Shah wrote on Twitter: “Remembering Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam from Bharat Ratna in his jayanti. A visionary leader and architect of India’s missile and space programs, he always wanted to build a strong and self-sufficient India. His immortal legacy in the field of science and education is an epitome of inspiration. “
Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam was born on October 15, 1931 in Rameswaram of Tamil Nadu. He worked with the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) and the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) as a scientist and administrator before becoming President of India.
He also ran the Guided Missile Integrated Development Program and developed missiles such as Agni and Prithvi. His close involvement in the nation’s space and ballistic missile development program earned him the nickname “Missile Man of India.”
