Union Interior Minister Amit Shah had lunch on Thursday at the home of a BJP tribal worker in Chaturdihi village in Bankura district.
It was a vegetarian platter of Bengali delicacies, served on a plate with a banana leaf.
Sitting on the floor of Bibhishan Hansda’s house, Shah ate rice, roti, dal, ‘patol bhaja’ (spiky pumpkin fry), ‘shukto’ (mixed vegetable stew that is slightly bitter), ‘alu- seed paste ) and ‘daddy’.
Although there were sweets such as ‘rosogolla’, ‘sandesh’ and ‘mishti doi’ on the menu, the BJP leader refused to eat those desserts.

Shah was accompanied by the BJP National Secretary General Kailash Vijayvergiya, the BJP National Vice President Mukul Roy and the head of the state party, Dilip Ghosh.
After lunch, Shah sat in a charpoy and had a short interaction with family members and local people who had previously welcomed him warmly. They blew conch shells and beat the drums as he traversed a narrow and muddy road in the village to reach Hansda’s house.
Hansda said that it was an honor for him to host Shah and that this would be one of the most memorable days of his life.
Shah, who is on a two-day tour of the state, arrived in Bankura this morning to take stock of the party’s organization in the district. Assembly elections are likely to be held in the state in April-May next year.
Shah is scheduled to hold organizational meetings in the district and meet with representatives from various communities and social groups.
Bankura, dominated by backward and tribal communities, is one of several districts where the BJP had made great strides in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. It pocketed both parliamentary seats in the district.
