Union Interior Minister Amit Shah on Sunday celebrated the crossing of the majority mark by the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the Assam Bodoland Territorial Council polls.
“The NDA secured a comfortable majority in the Assam Bodoland Territorial Council polls. Congratulations to our UPPL ally, CM Sonowal, State Min HB Sarma and the party’s Assam unit. I thank the people of Assam for their continued faith in PM’s determination towards the developed northeast, ”he said.
The Peoples’ United Liberal Party (UPPL) won 12 seats in the elections, the BJP nine, while Congress and the Gana Suraksha Party (GSP) each won one seat. The ruling Bodo People’s Front (BPF) emerged as the largest party with 17 seats.
BPF and BJP, both partners of the alliance in the state government, had disputed the choice of BTC separately.
Although the BJP and UPPL have not announced any formal alliances, they had indicated a possible post-electoral pact in the event of a hung Council.
