Union Interior Minister Amit Shah sent a letter to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday, stating that the state government was not allowing special trains and that it was “injustice” to migrant workers trapped there .
The letter said that the central government had facilitated more than two lakh migrants to reach their homes.
“Migrants from West Bengal are also eager to get home. The central government is facilitating but we are not receiving the expected support from W.B. State Government, which does not allow trains to reach W.B. This is injustice to W.B. Migrant workers This will create more difficulties for them, ”said the letter.

In response to the letter, Trinamool’s congressional leader and deputy Abhishek Banerjee alleged that the interior minister was spreading a “package of lies” after remaining silent for weeks.
Mr. Banerjee, nephew of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, said that Mr. Shah was talking about the same people the Center has left behind.
“A HM who doesn’t do his homework during this crisis speaks after weeks of silence, only to trick people with a bunch of lies! Ironically, he is talking about people who have literally been left to fate by their own government. Sir @AmitShah, prove your false accusations or apologize (sic), ”he wrote on Twitter.
The Railways is running special Shramik trains at the request of state governments to help migrant workers trapped in various parts of the country due to the permanent blockade to get home. The blockade was first imposed on March 24 in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic and lasted until May 17.
All forms of public transportation, including railways, remain suspended during the period.
Previously, on May 5 and 6, the Union’s Secretary of the Interior, Ajay Bhalla, wrote to West Bengal’s Chief Secretary, Rajiva Sinha, stressing that “the district authorities misrepresented and applied crowd control measures” and They noted the arrest of essential goods vehicles by the state government to cross. to Bangladesh during the ongoing blockade.
