New Delhi:
Amid the growing rift with NDA partner JD (U) ahead of the Bihar assembly elections, Lok Janshakti Party sponsor Ram Vilas Paswan has said he will stand firm with “whatever decision” his LJP’s son and chief, Chirag Paswan, take on party ties.
In a series of tweets, the Union minister also revealed that he was hospitalized for an illness and was receiving treatment. However, he did not mention the nature of his illness.
“At the time of the coronavirus crisis, I served the country as a food minister and did my best to ensure that food reaches everywhere on time. During this time, my health began to deteriorate, but to make sure it did not. there would be laxity at work because of this, I didn’t go to a hospital, “Paswan said.
The minister said it was at the urging of his son Chirag that he went to a hospital and began treatment.
“I am happy that my son Chirag is with me at the moment and is taking care of me in every way possible. Besides taking care of me, he is also fulfilling his responsibilities towards the match,” Paswan said.
In a politically significant statement, he also indicated that he would support his son Chirag’s decision on the alliance and the allocation of seats in the Bihar assembly elections.
“I am sure that with his youthful thinking, Chirag will take the party and Bihar to new heights. I strongly support all of Chirag’s decisions. I hope to be well and among my loved ones soon,” said Ram Vilas Paswan. .
His statement comes after the LJP authorized Chirag Paswan to respond to a call on whether the party will fight Bihar’s chief minister, Janata Dal (United), led by Nitish Kumar, in the assembly elections and decided to prepare a list of candidates for 143 electoral districts.
Chirag Paswna’s confrontation with the government in Bihar began in March this year when he embarked on a “Bihar First Bihari First” campaign that was viewed with suspicion by the JD (U).
The relationship between the two parties had taken a nosedive in subsequent months with the LJP chief taking photos in the JD (U) government for his handling of COVID-19, the migration crisis that followed the shutdown, and insistence on the holding elections for the assembly, scheduled in October-November, on time despite the terrible pandemic.
Nitish Kumar’s decision to join hands with former chief minister Jitan Ram Manjhi, a Dalit leader like the Paswans with a history of attacking the LJP, has further soured their ties.
While targeting Nitish Kumar, Chirag Paswan refrained from attacking the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and even praised the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
