E-Commerce Guidelines: Coronavirus Cases, India: The National Blockade is in effect until May 3.

Amazon India responded today to the government’s change of heart by allowing the delivery of non-essential items starting today as part of the relaxations during the coronavirus blockade. In a statement to NDTV, Amazon India said the new rules were disappointing not only for consumers but also for small businesses and manufacturers.

E-commerce platforms can sell essential products like food, pharmaceuticals, and medical devices.
Yesterday, the government rescinded permission for e-commerce companies to resume delivery of non-essential items, a move tied to opposition from local merchants whose businesses remain closed due to the shutdown.
In a tweet, Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal said the decision to block big e-commerce sellers for now would create a level playing field for small retailers.
“Grateful to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for clarifying that e-commerce companies can only supply essential goods during the shutdown. This will create a level playing field for small retailers,” Goyal tweeted.
Some activities were allowed in parts of India today, almost a week after PM Modi extended the national closure until May 3.
